I want to talk about this issue from carrying forward the spirit of the May 4th movement. The spirit of the May 4th Movement embodies the advanced values pursued by the Chinese people and the Chinese nation since modern times. Patriotism, progress, democracy and science are the core values that we should still adhere to and practice today. Not only the majority of young people should adhere to and practice, but also the whole society.

The history of the development of human society shows that, for a nation or a country, the most lasting and deepest power is the core value recognized by the whole society. Core values, bearing the spiritual pursuit of a nation and a country, embody the value standard of a society to judge the right and wrong.

The ancients said: "the way of university is to be clear about morality, to be friendly to the people, and to stop at the highest good." Core values, in fact, are a kind of virtue, which is not only a kind of individual's virtue, but also a kind of great virtue, that is, the national virtue and the social virtue. A country is not prosperous without virtue, and people are not established without virtue. Every era has its spirit and values. State owned four dimensions, propriety, righteousness, integrity and shame, "if the four dimensions are not opened up, the country will perish." This is the understanding of Chinese ancestors on the core values at that time. In contemporary China, what kind of core values should our nation and our country adhere to? This problem is not only a theoretical problem, but also a practical one. After repeated solicitation of opinions and comprehensive understanding of various aspects, we propose that we should advocate prosperity, democracy, civilization and harmony, advocate freedom, equality, justice and the rule of law, advocate patriotism, dedication, honesty and friendship, and actively cultivate and practice the core socialist values. Prosperity, democracy, civilization, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, rule of law, patriotism, dedication, honesty and friendliness inherit the gene of Chinese excellent traditional culture, repose the ideals and beliefs of the Chinese people since modern times, which have been established through arduous efforts, and also bear the beautiful vision of each of us. We should firmly establish the socialist core values in the whole society. Why should I talk to the youth about the socialist core values? To establish and cultivate socialist core values, young people should make efforts in the following aspects.
